Location: Piazza Navona
Piazza Navona is one of the most beautiful and famous squares in Rome. It is a pure example of baroque art and owes its elliptical form to the ancient Stadium of Domitian which previously stood there.
In the central area of the square, you can find the Fountain of the Rivers, a work by Bernini which was built as the base for the Egyptian obelisk which was brought here from Circus of Maxentius and the church of S. Agnese in Agone which was designed by G. Rainaldi and Borromini and which is a magnificent example of baroque architecture.
On either side of Bernini’s fountain, we can two other quite charming fountains, the Fountain of the Moor and the Fontana dei Calderoni which were designed by Giacomo dellla Porta before Bernini erected the central fountain. Piazza Navona is a meeting point which sees thousands of people flocking there until the wee small hours of the morning in the nearby pubs, wine bars and restaurants of every description.
